Botox
Botox is a non-surgica
l procedure used to treat crow’s feet, frown lines, and lines on the forehead. Small injections are administered to relax the muscles, gradually reducing the appearance of wrinkles. A single Botox treatment can last up to 4 to 6 months and can be completed in a regular hygiene visit. To maintain a youthful appearance, Botox treatments should be scheduled regularly.
Dermal Fillers
A Dermal Filler treatment can be used for lip augmentation and to minimize lines around the lips, nose, and mouth. This is a quick and non-invasive treatment that can be completed on your lunch break, after a whitening session, or during your regularly scheduled dental appointment. A single Dermal Filler treatment with products such as Juvederm and Restylane can last up to one year and enhance the look of your smile.
The Benefits of Botox in Dentistry
Botox is most recognizable as a tool used to reduce facial wrinkles. You may be asking yourself, what role could botox possibly play in my regular dental visits?
Botox works by reducing and relaxing the contractions of the underlying muscles. Using this method of action we can use Botox in dentistry to aid in therapy for grinding, clenching and TMJ disorders. As well as to help reduce very high or gummy smiles.
Many people suffer from TMJ disorders, or are chronic clenchers or grinders. This can lead to a multitude of problems, such as pain along the strong muscles that support the jaw, tenderness of the back molars, as well as erosion and destruction of enamel and tooth structures. Studies have found that by using botox along those strong muscles supporting the jaw we can lessen the force placed along the jaw and teeth. This helps decrease pain and tension associated with chronic clenching, grinding and TMJ problems, as well as helps lessen negative effects to the teeth.
A gummy smile is a term that is used to describe a smile that shows an excessive amount of gum between the upper lip and teeth. By using botox to relax the muscles that lift the upper lip we can lessen the amount of gum that shows when smiling.
